Cyberpunk 2077 Review

It’s a great game, and gamers seem to parrot what popular trends online say. The game has bugs. Yes. But so did GTA 5. So did FFVII Remake, Witcher 3, and Skyrim. The game has bugs, but the extent to which this should affect your opinion of the game is massively overblown. But that’s the headline now, and everyone is running with it. You find some anecdotal examples online of some really bad bugs, and you run with it, convincing yourself that it’s indicative of the overall experience you’ll have with the game.

Do you know why those other games have been considered great games? Because the bugs weren’t the headlines at the time of release to the same extent this is. That Sony completely pulled it from its online store despite having dozens of titles. Still up that are just as buggy is absurd to me. That CD Project Red is completely refunding everyone’s game is ridiculous to me. The amount of money being lost over an overblown (in my opinion) largely non-issue reflects that we’ve become victim to narratives that are repeated often until the outrage associate with them takes on a life of its own.

My Opinion

My unpopular opinion is that the game is pretty great. So far, I’ve enjoyed turning my character into a cyber stealth assassin who goes into missions sneakily, taking out guards one by one. That one time I parked my car and levitated off the ground about a foot isn’t what sticks with me. I can’t tell you how many times cars in GTA 5 have spazzed out, and yet, my conclusion was never that GTA 5 was garbage and broken. The game is great. If you’re looking to play a game like GTA in the future crossed over with the RPG elements of something like Skyrim and a transhuman theme like Deus Ex. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed because now and again, some NPCs’ legs failed to render. Big fucking deal. It never stopped you from enjoying other hit games. I was hoping you wouldn’t believe the hype (and by that, I mean don’t think the hype around how awful and broken it is-it isn’t). It’s fine, and I feel confident that CDPR is hard at fixing the bugs (that have barely affected me) anyway.
